A collaboration
between the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), Georgia Tech's Biomedical
Interactive Center (BITC), and IMTC, the Endoscopic Retrograde
Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP) Surgical Simulator replicates
an endoscopic procedure in a virtual environment. It serves to
train physicians to perform ERCP procedures by using photorealistic
and tactile environments. The simulation consists of a virtual
patient, into which an endoscope is inserted and its position tracked. The
simulator provides tactile feedback, including pressure and motion.
A powerful graphics computer renders a real-time view from the
endoscope and a view from inside the organ.
