The Interactive
Media Technology Center helped design and develop the Georgia Resource
Center. Sponsored by Georgia Power's Office of Economic Development,
the Center is an interactive, multimedia database about current
Georgia industry. Maps, community profiles, site data, and
video is used to help find a suitable site to locate a business.
New technology introduced by the lab includes 3 screen video (seamless)
projected on the main viewing wall, three LCD projectors under
the conference table in which one projects sites and other information
onto a semi-transparent 3D model of the state of Georgia, and a
custom written application to facilitate the synchronization of
simultaneous video, graphics, and audio. The center uses 9 computers
connected over a network. Data on the Oracle server is always kept
up to date. Project managers are able to process real-time data
queries with the client or off-line queries to prepare for a presentation.
The system accesses over 20 videodisc players and other video resources.
The
system also includes a presentation on the Atlanta 1996 Summer
Olympic Games multimedia presentation created by IMTC. Interaction
includes the ability to view 360 degree shots of venue areas in
Atlanta and the state. Icons for each sport float over sites located
in the
panorama. Each sport venue contains a short presentation on the
sport, the venue features, and transportation options. All of the
Olympic
venues are included.
