IMTC assisted the
High Museum of Art with the redesign of its "See For Yourself"
Visual Arts Learning Space. "We really wanted to make
this space very fun, interactive, hands-on and immediately engaging
to people," says Kathleen Peckham of the High Museum's Department
of Education. "We knew that technology was one way to do that.
When it came to finding an organization that we could work with
and that understood museums, Georgia Tech immediately came to mind.”
The space introduces visitors to four of the basic elements of art
- color, line, composition, and light - through interactive computer
kiosks placed in the center of the room and representative art pieces
on the wall. The kiosks offer a variety of multimedia features accessible
through touchscreens.
The High Visual Arts Learning Space was originally installed in
1997. In 1999, the space was redesigned and IMTC contacted to update
the kiosk programs to reflect the new design. In 2002, the VALS
was deinstalled.
Below are examples from the High Museum kiosk. Each of the sections,
Color, Composition, Light, Line, are represented below with a screen
from the introduction animation as the first example.
