IMTC produced
a computer animation for the inauguration of Dr. G. Wayne Clough,
Georgia Tech's new president. The animation looks
toward the future, integrating a wealth of visual imagery with
a new music score written especially for the occasion by composer
James Oliverio, who also served as its producer. Actual video
and photographs of research being done on the Tech campus were
solicited from departments and laboratories across the campus,
and many of the selected images were incorporated into the work.
The fundamental concept with this is the constant interplay between
knowledge and imagination. Oliverio likens the five minute piece
to a journey through the collective intellectual network of Georgia
Tech, moving through various centers of knowledge to a level of
creativity and imagination that is below the surface, and then
returning with
a new idea or discovery to bring it into reality with design and
engineering. The soundtrack for this was realized by computer-generated
music synchronized with the combined forces of the University Orchestra
and the Georgia Tech Symphonic Band, conducted by Professor Ron
Mendola. click on a thumnail below for a larger view (JPG: 640 x 480)
