“This project
was developed at the request of James Oliverio, Composer and Professor
of Music at Georgia Tech who was seeking a visual program to synchronize
with Pachelbel's Canon in D Major. Our thinking was to design a
program for projection, which would reflect the pattern and structure
of the music and so to enhance a symphony audience's experience. An
extraordinarily popular piece of music, Pachelbel's Canon in D
has alternately been described as fresh, buoyant and purposeful,
and a reflection of tender grief. Because of this seeming
complexity of response to the music, a visualization was created
to celebrate the work's compelling spirit, without interrupting
a listeners individual imaginative associations. Working
in Photoshop and AfterEffects, a system of abstract images which
flow and alternate within an analogous and harmonious color scheme. The
alternations in color saturation help create a sense of depth
and shifts of plane. The work concludes in a gathering of all
the artifacts,
into a still frame held for the length of the music's final chord.”
