IMTC, is using
a technology from Apple Computer called QuickTime VR. Photographs
are shot with a 360 degree panoramic camera (IMTC owns a Seitz
Roundshot 35Super). Or images of a synthetic origin can be rendered
into one 360 degree view file using Alias/Wavefront. You need a
Macintosh or Windows QuickTime
VR player to view the images.
QuickTime VR (QTVR) is the acknowledged standard for creating and
viewing photo-realistic environments (panoramas) and real-world objects
on Mac OS and Windows computers. Users interact with QuickTime VR
content with a complete 360 degree perspective and control their
viewpoint through the mouse, keyboard, trackpad, or trackball. Using
a QTVR-enabled authoring tool, panoramas and objects are automatically
'stitched together' from digitized photographs or 3D renderings to
create a realistic visual perspective.
IMTC can provide a single source service for QTVR based applications.
We own a panoramic camera. are developing a digital panoramic camera,
and have the experience to create single and multi-node VR scenes.
We have used the technology in a number of our projects including
the MCCM project and Sam
Nunn Kiosk. We
also have some QTVR images taken by us during the 1996 Summer
Olympics (see below).
