Under the sponsorship
of BellSouth Mobile Data, IMTC investigated the feasibility of
using low bandwidth wireless connections to read the body text
of a multimedia e-mail message and higher bandwidth wireless connections
to send faxes, pictures, sounds, and movies. IMTC created a tool
that allowed the demonstrator to establish different bandwidth
virtual connections and actually download the data to show connection
costs verses performance on a mobile laptop computer.
