Yamacraw enlisted
IMTC in 2001 to design an easily updateable recruiting kiosk for
use by their human resources department. Yamacraw is an economic
development initiative to make Georgia a world leader in the design
of broadband (high-speed) communications systems, devices, and
chips. Broadband companies in Georgia that sign on with Yamacraw
as member companies, promise to create 100 new jobs a year. In
turn, these member companies benefit from Yamacraw’s promise
to increase the supply of computer scientists and computer, electrical
and software engineers with training appropriate for broadband
product design.
The touchscreen kiosk debuted at SuperCom ‘01 and has traveled
to career fairs to help recruit engineers and computer scientists
with backgrounds in broadband. The kiosk allows potential recruits
to: learn more about the Yamacraw initiative and its member companies,
view a list of jobs available with the Yamacraw member companies
(when connected to the internet), and discover what Georgia has
to offer.
Since the kiosk would not always be connected to the internet,
the updateability could not be done through an online database.
Instead,
the kiosk allows Yamacraw recruiters to keep the text and graphics
for each section up-to-date by editing or overwriting rich text
documents and images on the computer’s hard drive.
