IMTC developed
the Conference Composer configuration tool for ASPI Digital’s
innovative EF2280 Vortex audio signal processor. Conference Composer
is a tool that exposes the many functions of the EF2280 in an easy-to-use,
intuitive format. Multiple configuration screens provide complete
control over the inputs, filtering, mixing, and outputs of the device.
Logic input and output pins allow the EF2280 to sense its environment
and react accordingly. Macros allow complex behavior to be triggered
by a single event. Multiple presets store setting information for
up to 48 discrete configurations.
Developed as a commercial tool, the form of Conference Composer
was guided by extensive user testing. Users first suggested features
such as remote control via modem and the Internet. A cyclical design-implement-test
loop involving both IMTC programmers and ASPI Digital engineers
enabled new ideas to be quickly incorporated in the tool. As the
software evolved, the team maintained design objectives including
ease-of-use and an intuitive user interface. Unveiled at the NSCA
conference in March, Conference Composer and the Vortex met with
critical acclaim.
In the fall of 2001, ASPI Digital was acquired by Polycom and became
the Installed Voice Group. The project continued through the summer
of 2002. IMTC and Polycom IVG developed version 2 of Conference
Composer. The new version supports additional equipment, including
the EF2241. Even though the the collaboration reached an end, Polycom
IVG continues developing Conference Composer with their internal
team of programmers.
IMTC is proud to have had a part in helping the fledgling ASPI Digital
build a new product line and eventually become part of the Polycom
family.
